Book Review
Suzanne recently wrote a book review for a newly organized book club created by podcasters, Penny & Sam @podcast: Backpack Chit Chat. This is a super cool and informative podcast from two moms who are teachers with a lot in common, and plenty to share. Their tips and advice can help you throughout your journey as a teacher and/or mom.
In January 2023, the podcast added a book club! If you would like to join, send an email to backpackchitchat@gmail.com and they will add you to the email list. You will also be able to ask questions and add your thoughts and take on each chapter.
Chapter 2
This chapter about Ruth & Naomi is a beautiful example of living your faith out loud in front of others! The saying ‘You may be the only Bible some people read’ is revealed in living color here.
Naomi didn’t have a power point presentation or a 12 week study on how to become a Christian. The spirit of God working through her obviously was shining a light and drew Ruth to want to know more about the one true God that Naomi served.
Ruth saw enough in a short amount of time to make the decision, I will not return to my old life.
Naomi was genuine and wasn’t afraid to admit, there is nothing left here for me, I must return to my home. I left full but now I will return empty. Maybe it was her tenacity & strength to get back up that intrigued Ruth. Maybe Naomi’s willingness to go on this journey alone showed she was selfless, not wanting to endanger her daughters-in-law nor hold them back from their family and chance for a better future if they stayed in their hometown. Was it her unwavering faith even through dealing with immeasurable grief that caught Ruth’s attention? Naomi’s words were -God’s hand has turned against me, must have been coupled with hope that just maybe God will be merciful to me. Ruth understood enough to trust and believe her future would be better with Naomi’s God in it! Ruth declared – “Your God will be my God”
With the decision made to stick together regardless of the outcome, from that point forward, Naomi referred to Ruth as her daughter. This beautiful story also reveals just how much they needed each other. Ruth listened and trusted all her Mother ‘in-law’ told her to do and those choices gave both the life they desperately needed! What an amazing outcome this story gives!
So, who are you leading to Jesus currently with your words, actions, love and faith? Consider this: You may need that person as much if not more than they need you.
